Temporal Expressions – Creation

For our temporal expression task i experimented with taking photos with both fast and slow shutter speeds. Below are some of the photos that i took that represented the theme of ‘Cycle’:

Slow Shutter Speed:

For these images i experimented with a Nikon D3100 DSLR camera with a shutter speed of 5-10 seconds where i and other participants used sparklers to draw circles and random patterns. Drawing circles gave the the idea for my main slow shutter speed image below:

Fast shutter Speed:

For these images i experimented with dropping food colouring into a container of milk and to try and capture the moment the droplet impacts on the surface of the milk. To do this i set up lamps around the container so that there was enough light for the camera to absorb within my exposure time of 1/400th of a second:

To create this i filmed some footage in MP4 and used an online converter to convert the film into a looping GIF. I am overall impressed with the GIF because i didn’t lose much quality compared with the original MP4:
